The Festival of Ageing 2018
Middle eastern food tasting at the Ethnic Health Forum, Rusholme.
(13/07/2018 6.00pm – 8.00pm)
A Manchester Festival of Ageing event was held at the Ethnic Health Forum on Friday 13th July, in Rusholme above the bustling and colourful “Curry Mile”. This Middle eastern food tasting session was organised by EHF Development Officer, Hanif Bobat and colleague Faleh , and a local restaurant, Damascene, supplied a table of delicious food both meat and vegetarian.
Over 50’s were invited and were encouraged to sample the free exquisite culinary delights on offer and also meet and chat with the other guests. Visitors came to celebrate this Festival of Aging event from not only the local diverse ethnic Rusholme area but as far afield as Bolton and Bury. The tasting session was enlivened with conversation and stories, creating unity and shared experiences of different aspects of aging from the diverse ethnic origins in the room which included, Malawi, Pakistan and the UK.
This successful event for the Manchester Festival of Ageing shows that small community activities like this one in Rusholme help to bring people together, share experiences and at the same time enjoying a delicious meal.
